Mushi Ni

Chili pork dumplings, soft shell crab bao, and a Thai tea martini that ruins other martinis

Mushi Ni started life as a pop-up, and now it's got a real home at 337 Elizabeth Street NE in Inman Park — a few minutes off Freedom Park Trail, which connects straight into the Eastside Trail. It's a partnership between chefs Michael Le and Tanya Jimenez and Ian Jones of Victory Brands — yes, the same people behind Victory Sandwich Bar. Open Sun and Tue–Thu 11am–10pm, Fri–Sat till 11pm, closed Mondays (respect the day off). Full bar, no patio/outdoor seating.

I went in hungry and ordered too much on purpose. Here's what hit the table:

Order this

  • Chili pork dumplings — get these
  • Soft shell crab bao — get these too
  • Soy sauce ice cream — yes, for real, get this
  • Veggie pot stickers
  • Chicken gyoza
  • Shrimp dim sum
  • Brisket bowl

If you only order two savory things, make them the chili pork dumplings and the soft shell crab bao — everything else was good, those two were the reason I'm already thinking about going back. And don't skip dessert: soy sauce ice cream sounds like a typo until you taste it, then it just sounds like a good idea.

Food and atmosphere were great, but the real surprise was the cocktail menu — genuinely good drinks at prices that don't punish you for having two. The Thai tea martini is the one to get if you're even a little into Thai tea; calling it now, this is the new espresso martini.
